APEXTRACKDAYS? (WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, & HOW?)
Who is APEXtrackdays?
APEXtrackdays was created by riders like you in 2004 to make quality track time less expensive and more accessible. Our passion for riding never subsides, and APEXtrackdays survives because we look to our day jobs to make ends meet. We never get tired of making new friends at each and every trackday. We love this sport, and want to share it with you.
Why Should I do Trackdays With APEX?
We run affordable, no frills, no nonsense trackdays designed to give you the most track time for your money. Trackdays are the only safe environment to test the performance envelope of your motorcycle, and we believe that more riders would take advantage of trackdays if they were more affordable and less of a hassle. APEX does everything possible to keep the cost of a trackday affordable; we keep overhead low and pass those savings on to you. We provide a safe environment complete with ambulance service, but we are not paternalistic, bossy, or condescending. There are no big egos here, just fellow riders who want you to have the best riding day of your life. APEX wants you to feel like you belong, especially on your first trackday. At each trackday, we have photographers, instructors, tire services, and other amenities designed to maximize the value of your track time.
How does APEXtrackdays run their Sessions?
Our format consists of either two or three groups. The "A" group is for more experienced track day riders and the "B" group for less experienced or slower riders. The "C" group is for new track riders. Our maximum capacity is 30 riders per group. The "A" group takes to the track first, and the groups alternate throughout the day in 20 minute sessions. The Track Orientation School rides during the “C” session and attends a short class after their first riding session. Our goal is to keep the track green. If we must close it for breakdowns, debris, crashes, etc, we try to split the delay evenly between the sessions. If attendance becomes low as people begin to pack up early, we try to allows riders to ride in both groups like a no-session format to further maximize your track time, provided the Group A riders pass with a courteous 6 ft buffer while riding in the Group B session.
What Group Should I ride in?
We try to provide a controlled environment that allows you to ride as fast as you want (in keeping with the paragraph above) and explore the performance of your motorcycle without the hassles and dangers of the street. To accommodate different riding levels, participants can select between two different riding levels/groups:
Advanced Group | A This group is typically made up of licensed road racers and fast and experienced trackday riders. If you question whether you are fast enough for Group A, sign up for Group B and we will move you up to A after the first session or two if we feel you are ready. The number of riders permitted to sign up for each group is dependent on the track being run. Check the details for the event you are interested in attending for the max capacity.
Intermediate | B This group is typically made up of individuals wishing to improve upon their riding skills at a more comfortable pace. Your first session will start with some Lead/Follow siting laps led by Apex instructors to help you become familiar with the track. The number of riders permitted to sign up for each group is dependent on the track being run. Check the details for the event you are interested in attending for the max capacity.
Beginner | C This group is typically made up of individuals new to the trackday experience, and people wishing to improve upon their riding skills at a more comfortable pace. Your first session will start with some Lead/Follow siting laps led by Apex instructors to help you become familiar with the track. The number of riders permitted to sign up for each group is dependent on the track being run. Check the details for the event you are interested in attending for the max capacity.

REQUIREMENTS
What bike prep is required?
Except for a few special requirements listed below that differ from street preparation, preparing your bike for an APEX trackday is not unduly burdensome; the main requirement is that your bike is in good mechanical condition. APEX welcomes any brand of motorcycle in good working condition with at least 250cc displacement meeting the following requirements:
- - Good, working mechanical condition.
- - Typical antifreeze ("Ethylene" Glycol) coolant flushed from system and replaced with distilled water, Engine Ice (water soluble Propylene Glycol) or similar.
- - Headlight disabled or taped over.
- - Mirrors removed or taped over.
- - Taillight disabled or taped over (so that the brake light cannot be seen when your brakes are applied).
- - Engine in good running condition and NO FLUID LEAKS.
- - Tires in new or near new condition.
- - Chain properly tightened and in good condition.
- - All controls (throttle, brake & clutch levers, shift linkage, etc.) properly adjusted.
- - All the nuts and bolts, especially those removed and replaced during routine maintenance (brake caliper bolts, oil drain plug, axel nuts, etc), are tight (i.e., fastened with proper torque).
- - Brake pads are in good condition with plenty of wear left.
- - No motorcycle license, registration, or insurance are required.
- - REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR KEY.
What riding gear do I need?
- - Full-coverage leathers (one-piece or jacket and pants attached with minimum ¾ zip around waist) or an equivalent high quality textile riding suit (Aerostich Roadcrafter or similar).
- - Leather riding gloves that extend above the wrist.
- - Leather (or synthetic equivelant) riding boots fully covering the ankle.
- - DOT-approved full-faced helmet.
- - A back protector is highly recommended.
What is the First Trackday Orientation (FTO)?
This 1/2 day orientation is required if your APEX trackday is your first time on a track. However, the orientation is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Please check to see what is required at the track you plan to ride.
Our goal is to get riders new to the trackday experience comfortably up to speed quickly and safely. The track is a unique setting with it's own set of rules and expectations.
Some people are scared or nervous, some may be too excited, a few may be unreasonably overconfident or even arrogant, and most folks need some additional safety instruction on their first day at the track. Every new trackday rider should have at least one or two questions; hence the orientation.
The "A" group will take to the track first. During their track session, we hold a class session for new track riders detailing various procedures to follow throughout the day. In the subsequent class sessions we reinforce some basic riding skills that will help to keep the trackday safe for you and your fellow riders. By noon you'll be prepared to enjoy the rest of the trackday at your own pace.
The class sessions explore two topics: track specific behaviors and basic safe riding skills. Neither topic is rocket surgery (or brain science). The basic riding skills we review can vastly improve your riding ability rather quickly. You will have heard or read much of it before in which case your patience with us is appreciated.
This is not a race school. However, the safety skills we introduce are second nature to every good racer or rider and a great place to start.
Everything you learn at the track has street applications and your overall riding skills will improve tremendously. But our main goal with the orientation is to make every new trackday rider comfortable and safe on the track.
POLICIES
What if I crash during the Day?
Crashing happens. You can avoid crashing by riding within your limits, pitting when you get tired, and not pushing too hard to keep up with or pass someone going faster. Should you be so unfortunate as to crash at a track day, your misfortune will probably continue as we seldom allow crash victims back on the track for the remainder of the day. We evaluate each crash on an individual basis. Obviously damage to you, your gear or your bike will keep you off the track until repaired. If the crash was caused by stupidity of any kind, which includes riding too hard for a practice setting like a track day, your day will be over regardless of how fit you are to continue.
ASP (APEX Season Pass) Policy?
ASPs are much more restrictive than track days purchased individually, but tickets may be used for any track event. These rules will be adhered to in all cases. Do not purchase an ASP unless you are 100% willing to accept these terms:
- - ASPs must be paid in full at the time of purchase.
- - The ASP is for an individual rider and is not transferable under any circumstances.
- - ASP holders must sign up for (reserve) the dates they want, just like everyone else. Sign up may be done at any time, not just when purchasing a ticket pack. There is no special entitlement that places an ASP holder ahead of other waiting list riders, so sign up for your dates as soon as possible.
- - Canceling a track day reservation with at least two weeks notice does not use a day from your ASP. Canceling inside two weeks does spend the ticket! SOLE EXCEPTION: If a waiting list rider buys your spot from us, then canceling late does not spend a ticket. Again, tickets are not transferable; you cannot cancel late and give or sell the ticket to another rider.
- - Trackday reservations may be moved around, with at least two weeks notice, with the same freedom as individually-purchased track days.
- - The ASP is non-refundable and is limited to the season in which it was purchased, period. Do not crash your bike at the first trackday and then ask for a refund.
- - Extra trackdays beyond the ASP quantity are purchased at the regular price. (I.e., if you use up your ASP 5 pack and want to do another trackday, you buy it like everyone else.) It is not possible to convert money spent for track days that have already taken place towards an ASP. However, if you have reserved future track days with payment you may convert those funds towards an ASP.
- - Unused days expire at the end of the calendar year. However, under special circumstances, we may, at our sole discretion, allow unused days to be added to an ASP for the next season.
What if I need to cancel my trackday?
Because of the high demand for events and the difficulty and cost of reversing transactions, APEXtrackdays does not issue refunds for cancellations. Cancellations more than 14 days prior to an event will receive a full credit towards a future trackday at the event of your choice during the same calendar season, subject to availability. Cancellations within 14 days of an event will only receive a credit towards a future event to the extent we can fill your slot with another customer. Of course, you are welcome to sell your slot to another customer if you cannot use it at a future day; just tell us to whom it has been transferred before the event.
What if it rains?
It may rain! We run rain or shine unless the track officials believe that the weather is too dangerous for an event. Watch the forecast carefully if you only ride on perfect days. We obviously can't control the weather. Dress for success if the weather is suspect. This means your bike as well. You will need: DOT approved tires or roadracing "wets". No Slicks (duh). None of us prefers to run in the wet, but running in the wet is not a total loss and does have it's training merits.
